AJ (8 years old)
Inoperable Brain Tumors
While on a family vacation at Walt Disney World, AJ’s parents noticed he was struggling with coordination and walking. As their trip continued, his symptoms worsened, so they cut their vacation short and headed straight to the pediatrician. Shortly thereafter, doctors at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital diagnosed AJ with the most common type of nonmalignant pediatric brain tumor. AJ was diagnosed with 7 inoperable brain tumors. He endured a year of chemotherapy and was in remission for three years. A routine scan in 2018 discovered another tumor, requiring another round of chemotherapy treatment.
AJ handles it all with humor, a positive outlook and a lots of enthusiasm. AJ loves sports, especially following the University of Tennessee Vols, and his favorite NFL player, former Vol and current Pittsburg Steelers quarterback, Joshua Dobbs.
