MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — A former Morristown-Hamblen High School West teacher who was previously charged with sexual battery by an authority figure is now facing an additional criminal charge.
Court records show a Hamblen County grand jury returned an indictment on Sept. 14, 2026, charging Dennis Gregory Cupp with one count of indecent exposure, a Class B misdemeanor.
According to the indictment, Cupp is accused of intentionally exposing his genitals in a public place to another individual on or about Oct. 20, 2025.
The new indictment follows Cupp’s August 2025 arrest on a separate charge of sexual battery by an authority figure.
In that case, investigators alleged Cupp used a ruler to make unlawful sexual contact with a 16-year-old female student at Morristown-Hamblen High School West on May 21, 2025. Court documents indicated two witnesses were present during the incident. Investigators also reported that Cupp admitted to the conduct during a voluntary interview with detectives.
Following his arrest in 2025, Hamblen County Schools Superintendent Arnold Bunch suspended Cupp and removed him from the classroom pending both internal and criminal investigations.
Cupp joined Hamblen County Schools in 2020 as a custodian at Morristown East High School. He later became a teaching assistant in 2021 before being hired as a teacher at Morristown-Hamblen High School West in 2023.
The newly returned indictment is separate from the pending sexual battery case. As with all criminal defendants, Cupp is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
No additional court dates were immediately announced.
