OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WOKI) — A section of the Melton Lake Greenway will be temporarily closed this week as crews complete maintenance work on a key drainage channel designed to help prevent flooding in parts of Oak Ridge.
City officials announced that the portion of the greenway located between South Columbia Drive and Cascade Lane will be closed from Wednesday, Sept. 2, through Friday, Sept. 4.
The closure will allow work crews to perform improvements and maintenance on the South Columbia Drive overflow channel, which plays an important role in managing stormwater and protecting nearby properties.
According to the City of Oak Ridge, the overflow channel helps prevent flooding for homes along Cypress Lane and directs excess water into Melton Hill Lake.
During the project, dump trucks and heavy equipment will be moving in and out of the work zone throughout the day. City officials are asking residents, walkers, runners and cyclists to avoid the closed section of the greenway and use alternate routes until work is completed.
Officials said the temporary closure is necessary to ensure the safety of both workers and the public.
Weather permitting, the greenway is expected to reopen for normal use on Saturday morning.
The City of Oak Ridge thanked residents for their patience and cooperation while the infrastructure work is completed.
