LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — Lenoir City Schools canceled classes Tuesday after an early morning fire damaged multiple school buses at a district bus lot.
According to Lenoir City Schools Director Mark Hudson, classes were called off following the fire, which occurred at the bus yard near the Lenoir City Pool.
Lenoir City Dispatch confirmed that between five and 10 school buses caught fire. Emergency crews from the Lenoir City Fire Department and Lenoir City Police Department responded to the scene.
Officials have not released details about what may have sparked the blaze. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
The loss of multiple buses created transportation concerns for the school system, leading district leaders to cancel classes for the day while crews responded and assessed the situation.
No injuries were immediately reported.
