Scott County, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – Three people are facing multiple charges after a high-speed chase in Scott County reached speeds of 120 miles per hour and ended with a vehicle crash, a foot pursuit and a multi-day search involving several law enforcement agencies.
According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, deputies first spotted a vehicle traveling approximately 90 miles per hour on Highway 27 near Oneida on Wednesday.
When deputies attempted to catch up to the vehicle, the driver continued northbound, accelerating to approximately 120 miles per hour in the Winfield area, authorities said.
The pursuit came to an end when the vehicle crashed near the 2600 block of Highway 27. After the crash, all three occupants fled the scene on foot.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the National Park Service, Oneida Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol as officers searched the area for the suspects.
A woman identified as Hope Barnett was taken into custody at the crash scene. She was charged with evading arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance.
Later Wednesday evening, investigators located Jonathon Wood and took him into custody. Authorities said Wood was wanted in Kentucky and was charged as a fugitive from justice. He is wanted in connection with first-degree assault and first-degree burglary charges stemming from an incident at a hotel in London, Kentucky.
The search for the third suspect continued for several days.
Early Saturday morning, deputies located River Humfleet in the Leatherwood community and took him into custody without incident.
Humfleet was charged with evading arrest and theft of a motor vehicle. Authorities also said he was a fugitive from justice and was wanted in Kentucky on charges including first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and parole violation.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional information regarding the ownership of the vehicle involved in the chase or whether additional charges are expected.
The investigation remains ongoing.
