GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK (WOKI / WVLT) – A motorcyclist died after a crash Sunday evening on the Foothills Parkway in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, according to park officials.

Officials said the crash occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday, prompting a response from Great Smoky Mountains National Park rangers and Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers.

The motorcyclist, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Park officials have not released information about what led to the crash, whether other vehicles were involved, or where on the Foothills Parkway the collision occurred.

The incident remains under investigation.

The Foothills Parkway, a scenic roadway that borders portions of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is a popular route for motorists and motorcycle riders traveling through East Tennessee.
