ALCOA, Tenn. (WOKI) — McGhee Tyson Airport is expanding its flight options with the addition of new nonstop service between Knoxville and Newark Liberty International Airport on United Airlines.
Airport officials announced the twice-daily flights will begin September 24, 2026, creating a direct connection between East Tennessee and one of the nation’s largest business, financial, and transportation hubs. Tickets for the new route are available for purchase beginning today through United Airlines.
The new service is expected to provide significant benefits for both business and leisure travelers. Newark Liberty serves as a major United Airlines hub, offering passengers convenient one-stop access to hundreds of destinations across the United States and around the world.
Airport leaders say the route strengthens East Tennessee’s connectivity to the New York metropolitan area while creating new opportunities for economic development, business travel, and tourism.
In addition to helping local travelers reach destinations throughout the Northeast and beyond, the flights are expected to boost tourism to Tennessee by providing easier access for visitors traveling to the state’s national parks, outdoor recreation areas, major attractions, sporting events, and scenic destinations.
The announcement marks another expansion of air service at McGhee Tyson Airport as demand for travel continues to grow across the region.
The new Knoxville-to-Newark flights are scheduled to begin operating on September 24, 2026.
