NORTH KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WOKI) — Quick action by firefighters and a tightly closed interior door helped prevent a garage fire from spreading into a North Knox County home Thursday morning.
Rural Metro Fire responded at approximately 7:28 a.m. Thursday to a reported house fire in the 7500 block of Holly Crest Lane. Crews arrived within four minutes and found smoke coming from a closed garage door. Firefighters determined no one was home at the time of the incident.
After forcing entry into the garage, crews located and extinguished the fire within 15 minutes. Firefighters then ventilated the structure to remove smoke.
According to Rural Metro Fire, the door between the garage and the house remained tightly closed, preventing smoke and flames from entering the living area. As a result, there was no smoke or fire damage inside the home.
Fire officials say the incident serves as an important reminder about fire safety, noting that closed doors can significantly slow the spread of smoke and fire. They encourage residents to keep interior doors closed and to sleep with bedroom doors shut whenever possible.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
