KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) – A Blount County woman is facing felony charges after investigators say she stole thousands of dollars from a Knoxville medical office where she worked.
According to court records obtained by WVLT News, 35-year-old Amy MacDaniel of Alcoa was arrested Monday following an investigation into missing cash payments at a doctor’s office on Papermill Drive.
Investigators alleged that between Jan. 27 and Feb. 18, MacDaniel accepted cash payments from patients and failed to deposit the full amounts. Instead, authorities say she kept a portion of the money for herself while submitting falsified financial records to conceal the thefts.
Court records indicate the investigation uncovered several discrepancies involving patient payments and office accounting records.
According to the records, surveillance video and photographs showed “repeated concealment of cash on her person and at her workstation.”
Investigators determined the alleged scheme resulted in a documented financial loss of $3,124.10 for the medical practice.
Authorities also reported finding evidence that receipt documents had been altered, removed, swapped or destroyed in connection with the false accounting entries.
Based on the findings of the investigation, MacDaniel was charged with:
- Felony Forgery
- Felony Theft of Property
Additional details about the case, including future court dates, were not immediately available.
The case remains pending in the court system.
