KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — A Knoxville man is facing an aggravated arson charge after investigators determined a house fire early Friday morning was intentionally set following a domestic disturbance.
The Knoxville Fire Department responded to a reported residential fire in the 2400 block of Woodbine Avenue at approximately 1:16 a.m. on July 10.
When fire crews arrived, they found flames burning on the front porch of the home. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, preventing the blaze from spreading further into the residence and limiting additional damage.
Following the fire, Knoxville Fire Investigators and officers with the Knoxville Police Department responded to the scene to determine the cause.
Investigators concluded the fire had been intentionally ignited after a domestic disturbance occurred inside the home.
Police officers were able to locate the suspect a short distance away from the residence and took him into custody without incident.
After completing their investigation, fire officials determined the fire originated on the front porch and had been deliberately set.
As a result, 36-year-old Travis Deshawn Mitchell was charged with one count of Aggravated Arson. Officials said additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
Mitchell is being held at the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility.
No injuries were reported in connection with the fire.
