UPDATE: KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI)— Three people were killed Monday morning in a crash involving pedestrians along North Broadway near Cecil Avenue, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
Officers and Knoxville Fire Department crews responded to the scene around 8:30 a.m. near the First Creek Greenway.
Preliminary findings show a single vehicle traveling northbound on North Broadway struck a light pole before hitting two pedestrians on the east bank sidewalk of the greenway. The vehicle then crossed over and went down the west bank of First Creek, rolling several times.
Police say the driver and both pedestrians were pronounced dead at the scene.
The identities of those involved have not yet been released.
KPD crash reconstruction investigators are continuing to examine what led up to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
