Knox County, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – Residents in parts of North Knox County are raising concerns after noticing yellow and cloudy water coming from their taps.
The Hallsdale-Powell Utility District says the discoloration is due to elevated manganese levels in source water from Melton Hill Lake, along with algae affecting filtration systems. Officials stress that despite the appearance, the water continues to meet all state and federal drinking water standards.
Chief Operating Officer Cody Humphrey says crews are testing water every 15 minutes to ensure safety and have been working around the clock to resolve the issue.
Approximately 30 percent of customers have been affected. Utility officials say they are already seeing improvements and expect conditions to return to normal within the next 48 hours.
Residents say the discoloration appeared suddenly, with some describing a yellow tint and cloudy look.
