Grundy County, TN (WOKI) – A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper has been arrested and charged following an off-duty incident in Grundy County.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Trooper Timothy Johnson is facing three counts of aggravated assault after a confrontation that began with a crash near Tracy City on June 2.
Investigators say the driver of the other vehicle left the scene, prompting Johnson to pursue them in his personal vehicle. During the chase, authorities allege Johnson made multiple attempts to ram the vehicle and fired his duty weapon, striking the other car.
The pursuit ended when the other driver lost control and crashed along U.S. Highway 41. Officials confirmed that no one was injured by the gunfire.
The investigation was launched at the request of 12th Judicial District Attorney General Courtney Lynch. Following the findings, TBI agents obtained warrants for Johnson’s arrest.
He has since been booked into the Grundy County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
