The Hallsdale-Powell Utility District says it is working to address reports of discolored water in parts of its system.
Officials say the issue is caused by elevated levels of manganese in the raw water supply from Melton Hill Lake. Seasonal changes in water temperature and lake conditions can allow naturally occurring minerals, like manganese found in soil and rock, to enter the treatment process.
Although the water may appear discolored, the utility says it continues to meet all regulatory drinking water standards and remains safe for drinking, cooking, and everyday use.
Crews are actively monitoring the situation and making operational adjustments, including flushing water lines in affected areas, to improve water clarity.
