ATHENS, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) – The City of Athens has announced the termination of City Manager Dr. Randall Dowling following a 3-2 vote by the Athens City Council.
According to the city, Dowling’s contract was ended without cause under Section 11 of his agreement, which states the city manager serves at the pleasure of the council and may be removed at any time by a majority vote.
Officials did not provide specific reasons for the termination.
Under the terms of the contract, Dowling will receive six months of severance pay along with a $30,000 payment.
The city says Executive Assistant Bridget Roberts will step into the role as interim city manager.
