KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — A Knoxville man is facing several charges after police say he drove through a blocked construction zone and led officers on a brief pursuit Monday night.
According to a police report, 19-year-old Timothy Eckwood was stopped near Prosser Road and Magnolia Avenue, where an officer was working to keep traffic away from construction crews.
The report states Eckwood ignored traffic barriers and the officer’s marked cruiser with emergency lights activated, driving into lanes that had been closed for worker safety.
Police say Eckwood initially stopped but then drove away, leading officers on a short pursuit.
During the chase, authorities say he drove recklessly, weaving through reflective cones while construction workers were still present on the roadway.
The pursuit ended after Eckwood crashed into a utility pole near Cherry Street. Officers say he then exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.
Police also reported finding Eckwood with another individual and an almost empty bottle of liquor.
Eckwood now faces multiple charges, including:
- Driving under the influence
- Evading arrest
- Reckless endangerment
No injuries were reported among construction workers or responding officers.
