KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — MEDIC Regional Blood Center is kicking off the summer season with a week of cookouts aimed at boosting blood donations ahead of the busy holiday.
The Summer Kickoff Cookout runs May 18th through the 22nd at donor centers across East Tennessee, including Athens, Crossville, Knoxville and Farragut. Grilling will take place daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Organizers say Memorial Day weekend often brings an increase in demand for blood products, which take several days to process before use.
Donors will receive giveaways including a T-shirt, event tickets and coupons, while first-time donors can receive a 25-dollar e-gift card.
Appointments can be made online, but walk-ins are also welcome.
