Knoxville, TN (WOKI / KFD) – At 3:04 Saturday morning the Knox County Emergency Communications District dispatched Knoxville Fire Department units to the report of a semi-truck on fire on I-40 East near Cherry Street.
Upon arrival, the tractor was fully involved. The tractor was extinguished quickly, however, the fire has also heated the front end of the box trailer and ignited several pallets of paper flammables. This firefight took much more operational time and precision to accomplish.
The incident commander prioritized safety while protecting the remainder of the load from fire. Crews cut open the side of the trailer, manually removing burned and exposed materials from the opening.
KFD completed operations at this fire at 6:17 Saturday morning.
One Quint, two Tankers, the Hazardous Materials Response Truck and one Battalion Chief responded.
