Knoxville, TN (WOKI) – Katelyn Meadows, 29 of Knoxville, has been arrested and charged following a deadly shooting that happened late Thursday night.
At around 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, Knoxville Police Department officers and Homicide Unit detectives responded to a home in the 700 block of Belleaire Avenue to investigate a shooting with a victim. Upon arrival, officers located a man who had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Responding officers also detained Meadows at the scene.
After questioning and further investigation, it is believed that Meadows and the victim were consuming alcohol and marijuana on the front porch of the home while handling two different firearms. During that, Meadows reportedly unintentionally fired a round and struck the victim. Meadows then called 9-1-1 to report the incident.
Meadows was subsequently taken into custody for reckless homicide and reckless endangerment. She was booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility at around 6:30 a.m. this morning.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
The investigation, which is being conducted by the KPD Homicide Unit, is ongoing at this time.
