LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. (WOKI) – The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office is remembering one of its most beloved four-legged deputies following the death of K-9 Deja.
In a heartfelt tribute released Monday, the Sheriff’s Office announced Deja’s passing and reflected on her years of service, loyalty and unique connection to the agency and the Jenkins family.
Officials said Deja was much more than a working police dog.
“For many of us, Deja was much more than a K-9,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “She was part of our Sheriff’s Office family, part of our lives, our stories, and our memories.”
Deja served the citizens of Loudon County alongside her handler, Sergeant Clay Jenkins. Before partnering with Clay, she worked with his father, Sergeant Chris Jenkins, creating a special bond that connected multiple generations of law enforcement service.
That relationship became even more meaningful following the tragic death of Sergeant Chris Jenkins, who was killed in the line of duty in 2022. After his father’s death, Clay Jenkins assumed responsibility as Deja’s handler, continuing a partnership that carried significant personal and professional meaning.
Sheriff’s officials said the connection between Deja and the Jenkins family became a symbol of resilience and dedication during some of the agency’s most difficult years.
Deja also held another special place within the Sheriff’s Office family. She was the daughter of K-9 Dante, another respected law enforcement dog who passed away earlier this year.
The Sheriff’s Office described Deja and the Jenkins family as being deeply woven into the fabric of the department.
“She was there through the good days, the difficult days, and everything in between,” the statement read.
Officials said their thoughts are especially with Sergeant Clay Jenkins and his family as they grieve the loss.
“Today, our hearts are especially heavy for Sergeant Clay Jenkins and the entire Jenkins family,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “We know how much Deja meant to Clay, and we know that saying goodbye to her is saying goodbye to a piece of a very important chapter in his life and in the life of our Sheriff’s Office.”
The department praised Deja for her service to the community and the dedication she displayed throughout her career.
The tribute concluded with a final farewell that reflected the impact she made on those who knew her.
“Rest easy, Deja. You were a good girl, a great partner, and a member of our family. Thank you for your service. You will not be forgotten.”
Deja leaves behind a legacy of service, companionship and devotion that Sheriff’s Office personnel say will be remembered for years to come.
