MORGAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WOKI /WVLT) — The Tennessee Department of Correction is investigating after an inmate died while being housed at the Morgan County Correctional Complex.
TDOC spokesperson Kayla Hackney confirmed the investigation Wednesday, stating that “the Tennessee Department of Correction is investigating the death of an inmate at the Morgan County Correctional Complex on Tuesday.”
Few details have been released about the incident, and authorities have not identified the inmate.
At this time, officials have not determined a cause of death. According to TDOC, the inmate’s body is being examined, and investigators are awaiting the results to establish how the inmate died.
The Morgan County Correctional Complex is a state prison operated under the Tennessee Department of Correction and houses inmates in East Tennessee.
As is standard procedure in inmate death investigations, officials are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the death while awaiting findings from the medical examination.
