KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) – A Knoxville man is facing multiple criminal charges after police say a 75-year-old woman living in his home showed signs of abuse and was found in unsafe living conditions.
According to court records obtained by WVLT News, officers responded to a residence on Hickory View Circle on July 17 following a report of a possible domestic dispute.
When officers arrived, they were met by 37-year-old Christopher Neeley, who allowed them inside the residence.
Court documents state that officers immediately observed what they described as extremely unsanitary conditions throughout the home.
Investigators reported finding a strong foul odor, animal feces covering portions of the floor, urine and mouse droppings. Records also indicate that old food was scattered throughout the residence and that officers observed live rats and mice running inside the home.
Woman Found with Visible Injury
According to court records, Neeley led officers to a back room where they encountered a 75-year-old woman.
Investigators reported observing a large red mark on the woman’s face that they say resulted from Neeley allegedly striking her during an argument.
The woman was transported to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Multiple Charges Filed
Following the investigation, Neeley was taken into custody and charged with:
- Abuse of a vulnerable adult
- Neglect or abuse of a vulnerable adult
- Domestic assault
Authorities have not released additional information about the woman’s condition.
Neeley made his first court appearance during a bond hearing Tuesday and is scheduled to return to court on Thursday.
The case remains under investigation.
