SNEEDVILLE, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of a 46-year-old man who sustained a gunshot wound while in the back of a Hancock County patrol car Saturday night.
Jacob Johnson died at an area hospital following the incident, according to TBI spokesperson Leslie Earhart.
Deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office were called to a report of a domestic dispute in the 300 block of Mack Lamb Road in Sneedville, which resulted in Johnson being taken into custody, Earhart said.
TBI said that preliminary information indicates that, while in the back of a patrol vehicle, Johnson produced a firearm and sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.
The investigation into the circumstances leading to the incident remains active and ongoing.
