KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — A Wednesday afternoon fire at an apartment complex in Knox County caused smoke damage to multiple units but resulted in no reported injuries.
According to Rural Metro Fire, crews responded to Walker Springs Apartments around 1:15 p.m. after reports of a fire at the complex.
Rural Metro spokesperson Jeff Bagwell said firefighters arrived to find a laundry room on fire. Crews quickly attacked the blaze and were able to contain it before it spread further through the building.
While the fire damage was limited primarily to the laundry room area, smoke impacted several nearby residences.
Bagwell said a total of eight apartments, including the unit where the fire occurred, sustained smoke damage as a result of the incident.
Following the response, residents were allowed to return to their homes, with the exception of the apartment directly affected by the fire.
Officials reported no injuries among residents or firefighters.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire. Authorities have not released additional details about what may have sparked the blaze.
The investigation remains ongoing.
