NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — Dolly Parton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been vandalized, according to the organization responsible for maintaining the iconic landmarks.
The Hollywood Historic Trust confirmed Tuesday that Parton’s star had been damaged with scratches.
“It does appear the star was vandalized with scratches,” the Trust told WSMV.
Trust officials said the star had already been scheduled for repair before the vandalism was discovered. However, other damaged stars along the Walk of Fame had been prioritized because they required more extensive work.
Photos shared by the Hollywood Historic Trust on social media show crews installing a replacement star while the area remains surrounded by caution tape.
The organization said it made the decision to accelerate the repair schedule following Parton’s passing in order to honor the country music icon’s contributions and legacy.
“When she passed, the Hollywood Historic Trust and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce made the decision to move her repair timeline up, in order to honor her life and legacy,” the Trust said in a statement. “We made that decision right after she passed and were simply waiting on our permit to begin the replacement process.”
Officials said the newly installed star will need time to cure before final polishing is completed. The Trust expects the site to be ready for fans to visit by the end of the week.
Parton, a Tennessee native and one of the most celebrated entertainers in music history, has long been honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her achievements in country music, entertainment and philanthropy.
