KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) -— Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler has officially closed his tenure as the county’s top law enforcement officer, offering a heartfelt message of gratitude to residents, deputies, and staff of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
In a farewell statement, Spangler reflected on his time in office, calling the opportunity to serve Knox County “the honor of my lifetime.”
The outgoing sheriff thanked the citizens of Knox County for the confidence they placed in him throughout his service.
“To the citizens of Knox County, thank you for placing your trust in me,” Spangler said. “I have never taken that responsibility lightly, and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve.”
Spangler also praised the men and women of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, describing them as an incredible team dedicated to serving the community.
Throughout his message, he reflected on the challenges and triumphs experienced during his tenure, noting there had been “good days, difficult days and days we will never forget.”
The sheriff emphasized the importance of faith, family, and service, saying those values remained at the center of his leadership and public service.
Although stepping away from the role, Spangler said Knox County will always remain home and that the sheriff’s office family will forever hold a special place in his heart.
He concluded the message with a blessing for the community, the sheriff’s office, and Knox County before delivering his final sign-off.
“For the final time, Unit 1, signing off.”
Spangler’s farewell marks the end of an era for the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and closes a chapter in local law enforcement leadership that has spanned years of service to the community.
