Sevier County, TN (WOKI) – Sevier County communities are coming together today to honor one of their most beloved daughters.
As part of the official Day of Mourning proclaimed following the death of Dolly Parton, the historic 1896 bell atop the Sevier County Courthouse will ring at noon Wednesday in tribute to the country music legend and philanthropist.
The five-minute tolling ceremony is being coordinated by Sevier County, the cities of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, the Town of Pittman Center, and the Sevier County School System.
Historic Bell to Sound Across Downtown Sevierville
Officials say the courthouse bell will ring as a solemn tribute to Parton’s extraordinary life, her deep connection to Sevier County, and the lasting impact she made on generations of people both locally and around the world.
The bell, which has watched over downtown Sevierville since 1896, will serve as a symbolic reminder of Parton’s roots in the community she always called home.
Schools to Observe Moment of Silence
In recognition of Parton’s years as a student at Sevier County High School, all schools throughout the county will observe a moment of silence at noon.
School leaders said the observance will give students and staff an opportunity to reflect on the life and legacy of one of the county’s most celebrated graduates.
Community Asked to Participate
County leaders are also asking residents, businesses, visitors and organizations throughout Sevier County to pause at noon for a moment of silence.
Officials said the observance is intended to honor Parton’s remarkable life while keeping her family, friends and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.

From her global music career to her charitable work through the Imagination Library, disaster relief efforts and support for children’s healthcare, Parton’s influence extended far beyond the Smoky Mountains.
