ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) – Morning commuters are experiencing significant delays on Interstate 75 North after a multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer resulted in a fuel spill and lane closures in Anderson County.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation and Anderson County officials, the crash was reported at approximately 6:54 a.m. Wednesday near mile marker 123 on I-75 Northbound.
Authorities said a tractor-trailer involved in the crash leaked an estimated 30 gallons of gasoline, spilling fuel across portions of the interstate and creating hazardous driving conditions.
As a result of the incident, the right lane and right shoulder of the two-lane interstate have been closed while emergency crews respond and begin cleanup operations.
Traffic is being funneled into a single travel lane, causing backups and significant delays for motorists traveling through the area during the morning commute.
First responders, transportation officials and cleanup crews remain at the scene working to remove damaged vehicles, contain the fuel spill and safely reopen the affected lanes.
Officials have not released information regarding possible injuries or the exact number of vehicles involved in the crash.
Motorists traveling through Anderson County are encouraged to allow extra travel time, use caution when approaching the scene and consider alternate routes until normal traffic flow is restored.
The incident remains under investigation.
