GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — Tennessee Highway Patrol says charges are pending against a 30-year-old man following a golf cart crash that injured three people near Gatlinburg.
According to THP, the crash happened around 3:14 p.m. on August 13 on East Parkway near Roosevelt Drive.
Investigators said the 30-year-old was driving a golf cart and attempted to turn right onto East Parkway when he lost control. The golf cart overturned, throwing the situation into a dangerous chain-reaction crash.
Authorities said a second vehicle then collided with the overturned golf cart.
The golf cart driver and two passengers suffered injuries in the crash and were treated following the incident. Officials did not immediately release the extent of their injuries.
A third passenger riding in the golf cart was not hurt. The two occupants of the second vehicle also escaped injury, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. THP said charges are pending against the golf cart driver, though specific charges have not yet been announced.
The crash serves as a reminder for motorists and golf cart operators alike to use caution when entering public roadways, particularly on busy routes in the Gatlinburg area that experience heavy traffic from both residents and tourists.
