KINGSTON, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — The Kingston Police Department is investigating after bones were discovered inside a residence Friday afternoon.
According to police, officers were dispatched at approximately 3:40 p.m. to a home on West Ridgecrest Drive following a report of possible human bones being found inside the residence.
When officers arrived, they searched the property and found a box containing bones inside a closet located in the home’s garage.
Police said the bones appeared to have been stored at the location for an extended period of time, though investigators have not released any information regarding how long the remains may have been there or who may have placed them in the closet.
The bones were collected as evidence and transported to the Knoxville Forensic Center, where forensic specialists will examine the remains to determine their origin and any additional identifying information.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the bones are human, and no other details have been released regarding the investigation.
The Kingston Police Department said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
