SCOTT COUNTY, Tenn. — Authorities in Scott County are investigating a shooting that left one person injured in the Pine Hill area of Winfield.
According to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene after reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they located a person who had been shot.
Officials say the victim was airlifted from the scene to a hospital in Knoxville for treatment. The extent of the victim’s injuries has not been released.
Sheriff Brian Keeton said the investigation remains in its early stages, and few details are being made public as detectives continue their work.
“This incident remains under investigation, and no additional information is being released at this time,” Keeton said. “Investigators are continuing to work to determine the circumstances that led up to this incident.”
Authorities have not said whether a suspect has been identified, and no arrests have been announced.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward as investigators work to piece together what happened.
