Alcoa, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – McGhee Tyson Airport has secured a $10 million federal grant to support expansion and modernization efforts.
Airport officials announced the funding Monday, saying it comes through the Fiscal Year 2026 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Airport Terminal Program. The money will be used to expand the airport’s security checkpoint and support projects outlined in the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority’s 10-year strategic plan.
Leaders say the improvements are designed to increase efficiency and enhance the overall passenger experience as the airport continues to see growth.
“Expanding our security checkpoint is a key priority, and this federal investment allows us to move forward with a project that will significantly benefit travelers and our region,” said Airport Authority President Patrick Wilson.
The grant was made possible with support from Tennessee’s congressional delegation and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The funding comes as McGhee Tyson continues work on broader expansion efforts amid record travel demand in the region.
