Tennessee – (WOKI) – Tennessee drivers are seeing a welcome drop in gas prices heading into the summer travel season.
According to AAA, the statewide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline fell 18 cents over the past week, bringing the average to $3.75. That’s about 45 cents cheaper than one month ago, but still more than a dollar higher than this time last year.
AAA says Tennessee remains one of the least expensive markets in the country, currently ranking sixth lowest nationwide for gas prices.
“Drivers are continuing to see a much-needed break at the pump,” said Megan Cooper with AAA – The Auto Club Group. She noted, however, that uncertainty in the global oil market could still impact prices in the coming weeks. If crude oil prices remain lower, drivers may continue to see gradual declines.
Across the state, prices vary by region. Memphis currently has some of the highest averages at around $3.86 per gallon, followed by Nashville and the Tri-Cities region. Meanwhile, Chattanooga, Clarksville, and Cleveland are seeing the lowest prices.
The national average also dropped last week, falling to $4.16 per gallon as crude oil prices remain below $100 per barrel.
