Knoxville, TN (WOKI /WVLT) – A multi-day search for a suspected killer came to an end Tuesday when 41-year-old Corey Huff surrendered to law enforcement in Anderson County.
According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Huff was spotted exiting a wooded area near the 2700 block of Hines Creek Road before surrendering peacefully to authorities. His arrest concludes an extensive manhunt involving local, state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Huff became the focus of the investigation after Knoxville Police identified him as the suspect in a fatal stabbing outside the Kenjo gas station on North Broadway. Officers responded to the scene early Sunday morning after reports of a stabbing and later determined the victim had died.
The search intensified Monday after authorities said Huff was spotted driving in the Norris Freeway area. According to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Scott Erland, a deputy with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop Huff’s vehicle after he was seen at a gas station shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday.
Investigators said Huff refused to stop, leading deputies on a pursuit through Anderson County. The chase ended near Carden Gap Road, where Huff abandoned his truck and ran into a wooded area.
Law enforcement personnel spent more than a day searching the densely wooded terrain around the Heiskell community. Multiple sightings of Huff were reported during the search, prompting a coordinated response from numerous agencies.
Authorities have not yet released the specific charges Huff will face, though officials have identified him as the suspect in the fatal Knoxville stabbing. Investigators are expected to provide additional information as the case moves forward through the court system.
No injuries to law enforcement officers were reported during the pursuit or search operations.
Huff remains in custody pending formal charges and court proceedings. Authorities have not announced where he will be held or when he will make his first court appearance.
