Knox County, TN (WOKI) -A fatal crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on Clinton Highway has left one person dead and two others critically injured, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the crash in the 7200 block of Clinton Highway and discovered the motorcycle operator had died from injuries sustained in the collision.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity as notification of next of kin is still pending.
Child Passenger Critically Injured
Investigators said a 9-year-old passenger riding on the motorcycle was seriously injured in the crash.
The child was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and remains in critical condition.
No additional information about the child’s injuries has been released.
SUV Driver Also Hospitalized
The driver of the SUV involved in the collision was also transported to UT Medical Center.
According to the sheriff’s office, that individual is likewise listed in critical condition.
Authorities have not released the name of the SUV driver.
Investigation Underway
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Unit, also known as the TANGO Unit, is leading the investigation into the crash.
Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the collision.
At this time, deputies have not released information regarding:
- The cause of the crash
- Whether charges are being considered
- The direction of travel of either vehicle
- Any contributing factors such as speed or impairment
Sheriff’s Office Statement
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active and no additional details are currently available.
Officials also expressed concern for the victims and their families.
“Our thoughts are with everyone involved,” the agency said in a statement.
