KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) – A Knox County Sheriff’s Office sergeant has been fired after picking up a theft charge. The sheriff’s office confirmed the news Monday, saying Benjamin Monro had been terminated Friday.
Monro’s court documents outline the accusations stacked against him. The documents say an officer met with a witness who accused Monro of stealing more than 20 times from a Food City in Knoxville.
“Munro was involved in twenty-six separate theft incidents at self-checkout registers,” the documents said. “During my review of the video surveillance, I observed Munro intentionally fail to scan merchandise before placing the items into shopping bags. I also observed Munro place a lower-priced item over higher-value merchandise and scan only the lower-priced item, causing the register to record the lower-priced merchandise while concealing the higher-value items.”
According to the court documents, Munro was accused of stealing around $1,400 in items from the store. He was charged with theft and computer offenses.
