The “For the People Act” is a clever name for a bill aimed really at solidifying Democrats’ hold on power, according to Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., on Newsmax TV.
The House this week debates the bill, officially named House Resolution 1, that would affect virtually every aspect of the electoral process.
“What they’re trying to do is really gum up the system with so much confusion, you’re not going to know who voted, where they voted from, and are they eligible citizens,” Tenney told co-hosts Sean Spicer and Lyndsay Keith on Monday’s “Spicer & Co.”
“We need to make sure our elections are safe and secure, and we need to make sure each person has one vote not several, and not people voting in multiple states.”
Tenney said H.R. 1 would prohibit genuine voter ID, would prevent states from working together to avoid duplicate ballots from individuals, and “facilitates the ability of anyone and everyone get in the business of registering voters.”
“I would like to see everyone vote but just vote once, and make sure they’re U.S. citizens,” she said.
First elected to the House in 2016, Tenney lost to Anthony Brindisi two years later. She defeated Brindisi this past November, though her victory was not confirmed until early February after a New York state judge had ordered a districtwide recanvass of all ballots.
Tenney said the “For the People Act” does the opposite of what is needed to assure secure elections.
“It’s for the permanent installation of Democrats forever,” she said. “It’s basically a one-party rule act,” “What the Democrats are trying to do is everything that went wrong in my race would become the norm.”
