Imprisoned Hong Kong Freedom Fighter Honored by Catholic Prayer Breakfast

Jimmy Lai could not accept the honor bestowed on him Tuesday morning at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC.

Lai, 73 and a convert to Roman Catholicism a quarter-century ago, is languishing in a Hong Kong prison for his outspoken criticism of the Chinese government and Communist Party and its iron grip on the island.

Arrested in April of last year and convicted of violating the new national security law imposed on Hong Kong by the Chinese, Lai was sentenced in April 2021 to 14 more months for “organizing illegal protests.
