KNOXVILLE, TN (WOKI) – Motorists traveling through downtown Knoxville will encounter overnight lane closures on James White Parkway next week as crews perform maintenance work on a bridge along the route.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, one lane in each direction on James White Parkway, also known as State Route 158, will be closed beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, and again on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
The closures are needed so crews can apply a texture coating to the bridge spanning East Jackson Avenue.
TDOT said each night’s lane closures will remain in place until 6 a.m. the following morning, allowing work to be completed during overnight hours when traffic volumes are typically lower.
Drivers are encouraged to plan for possible delays and use caution when traveling through the construction zone.
Transportation officials are also reminding motorists to check traffic conditions before leaving home by using available travel information services, including Tennessee’s 511 traveler information system.
TDOT urges drivers to stay alert in work zones and avoid distractions, including texting, talking on a handheld phone or using social media while behind the wheel.
Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed following the two nights of scheduled lane closures.
