KPD Says Suspect Was Found Blocking Sidewalk on Mattress
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — (WOKI / WVLT) – A Florida man is facing multiple felony charges after Knoxville Police say he was found lying on a mattress that was blocking a sidewalk and was allegedly carrying a significant amount of methamphetamine.
According to the Knoxville Police Department, officers were on foot patrol in the area of Broadway and Fifth Avenue on Thursday when they encountered two people lying on a mattress that was obstructing the sidewalk.
During their investigation, officers identified one of the individuals as Victor Coffee, 63, of Jacksonville, Florida. Police said Coffee was found in possession of more than 23 grams of suspected methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia.
Coffee was arrested and charged with manufacture, sale and delivery of methamphetamine, possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia, and obstructing a highway or other passageway.
In a social media post, the Knoxville Police Department praised the officers involved in the arrest.
“We sincerely appreciate the tireless efforts of our officers to remove addictive and deadly narcotics from the streets and hold the individuals who bring those drugs into our community accountable,” the department said.
Police noted that this was not Coffee’s first encounter with law enforcement in Knoxville. According to KPD, he was arrested in the same area earlier this year after officers allegedly found him in possession of methamphetamine.
The case remains pending in Knox County court.
