KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — Persistent efforts by Knoxville Police Department officers led to the arrest of a man investigators believe is connected to multiple burglaries in the Central Street area.
According to KPD, officers located and arrested Samuel Hamilton, 53, shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday outside a business in the 600 block of North Central Street.
Police said Hamilton was wanted on two counts of burglary related to vehicle break-ins that occurred on North Central Street. He was also wanted on a theft charge stemming from the alleged theft of a security camera from a nearby residence.
Following his arrest, Hamilton was questioned by detectives with KPD’s Property Crimes Unit. Investigators subsequently charged him with aggravated burglary in connection with a residential burglary on Central Street that occurred October 18.
According to police, multiple items were stolen from inside the home during that incident.
Officers said Hamilton was also found in possession of drug paraphernalia at the time of his arrest, including multiple syringes. Investigators additionally recovered items believed to have been stolen during area vehicle burglaries.
KPD said Hamilton remains a person of interest in additional burglary investigations as Property Crimes Unit detectives continue their work.
Police praised the efforts of Central District officers, saying the arrest helps remove a habitual property crime offender from the community and may prevent additional crimes from occurring.
The investigation remains ongoing.
