BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference announced Monday that Tennessee junior placekicker Cooper Ranvier was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week, while senior defensive end Tyree Weathersby earned SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors following the Volunteers’ 26-10 victory over No. 6 Alabama.
The duo helped Tennessee secure a statement win on the Third Saturday in October, with Ranvier delivering a career-best kicking performance and Weathersby helping spearhead a dominant defensive effort against the Crimson Tide.
Ranvier was perfect on the afternoon, converting all four of his field goal attempts and both of his second-half PATs to finish with 14 points. He connected from 29, 33, 41 and 34 yards, with all four field goals coming in the first half as the Vols built an early advantage in a defensive battle.
His four field goals marked the most by a Tennessee kicker in a game since Nov. 9, 2024, against Mississippi State. Ranvier’s 14 points also outscored Alabama’s entire team, and he improved to 10-of-11 on field goal attempts for the season.
Weathersby was a disruptive presence up front, recording two sacks for a loss of 17 yards, 2.5 tackles for loss and four total tackles while recovering a fumble in the first quarter. He played 42 of Tennessee’s 55 defensive snaps in a performance that helped fuel one of the Vols’ most impressive defensive showings of the season.
Tennessee held Alabama to just 54 rushing yards on 2.1 yards per carry and limited the Crimson Tide to 201 total yards. Alabama gained 62 yards on its final drive with the outcome already decided, underscoring the dominance of the Volunteer defense for most of the afternoon.
Weathersby now has 6.5 sacks on the season, including 5.5 in SEC play. His conference sack total ranks second among SEC players in league games this season.
Tennessee has totaled 58 SEC weekly honors during the Josh Heupel era (since 2021), including nine Special Teams Player of the Week and 10 Defensive Lineman of the Week awards.
