KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — A routine traffic stop on Interstate 75 turned into a vehicle pursuit, foot chase and drug seizure after a driver allegedly fled from Knox County deputies.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, deputies assigned to the Charlie Shift attempted to stop a vehicle on I-75 North near Merchants Drive after observing the driver fail to maintain its lane.
Instead of pulling over, the driver sped away, leading deputies on a pursuit along Central Avenue Pike.
Authorities said the chase came to an end near Glenwood Baptist Church when the driver lost control of the vehicle and stopped.
The driver then exited the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. Deputies pursued the suspect and eventually took the individual into custody.
During an inventory search of the vehicle, investigators discovered approximately 2.7 ounces of suspected methamphetamine, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Brent Gibson said the arrest demonstrates the agency’s commitment to proactive law enforcement efforts and keeping illegal drugs off local streets.
“The Knox County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to proactive enforcement and removing dangerous drugs from our community,” Gibson said.
Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name or the formal charges expected in the case.
The investigation remains ongoing.
