KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — Knox County election officials have released a detailed statistical breakdown of voter participation in the August 6, 2026 election, offering a closer look at who turned out to vote and how they cast their ballots.
According to the Knox County Election Commission, 89,906 ballots were cast in the election, representing 33.58 percent of the county’s 267,734 active registered voters.
Early Voting Dominated Turnout
The data shows early voting remained the preferred method for most voters.
- Early voting: 52,633
- Election Day voting: 34,676
- Absentee by-mail and nursing home voting: 2,300
More than half of all ballots cast came during the early voting period.
Election officials also reported 3,033 first-time voters participated in the election. The two oldest voters to cast ballots were both 102 years old.
Voter Participation by Residence
Residents outside the City of Knoxville accounted for the largest share of overall turnout.
- Knox County residents outside city limits: 53,241 votes
- City of Knoxville residents: 29,997 votes
- Farragut residents: 6,371 votes
Among county residents outside Knoxville and Farragut, Republican primary participation outpaced Democratic turnout. Within the City of Knoxville, Democratic turnout exceeded Republican turnout.
Age Breakdown
The election data shows older voters continued to lead participation rates.
- Ages 18 to 34: 12,352 voters
- Ages 35 to 54: 24,616 voters
- Ages 55 and older: 52,641 voters
Voters aged 55 and older accounted for nearly 59 percent of all ballots cast.
Younger voters, ages 18 to 34, represented the smallest voting bloc in the election.
Gender Breakdown
Among voters whose gender was identified:
- Female voters: 41,016
- Male voters: 33,923
- Unknown: 14,670
Female voter participation exceeded male turnout by more than 7,000 ballots.
Most Active Voting Precincts
The county’s busiest precinct was Farragut Middle School, where 2,455 ballots were cast.
The top five precincts by turnout were:
- Farragut Middle School (66NW) – 2,455
- Rocky Hill Elementary School (71) – 2,447
- Korean Church of Knoxville (66SE) – 2,270
- Gibbs Elementary School (81) – 2,084
- Amherst Elementary School (70E) – 2,024
Several West Knox County and Farragut precincts dominated the county’s highest-turnout locations.
District Participation
Among County Commission districts, District 4 recorded the highest turnout with 13,891 ballots cast, followed by District 5 with 11,884 and District 6 with 10,849.
In state House races, District 14 posted the highest participation level with 17,300 ballots cast, followed by District 18 with 15,691 votes.
Election officials say the report provides a snapshot of voter engagement across Knox County and may help campaigns, civic organizations and policymakers better understand voting trends throughout the community.
