KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — The Knox County Election Commission is moving into the post-election phase following the Aug. 6, 2026 county elections, with several public meetings scheduled before results are officially certified.
Unofficial cumulative and precinct election results have already been posted on the Election Commission’s website, but election officials must complete several required procedures before the results become official.
Provisional Ballots to Be Reviewed Tuesday
The first step in the post-election process will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 9 a.m. at the Election Commission’s West Office, located at 109 Lovell Heights Road.
During that meeting, the Provisional Ballot Counting Board will review 29 provisional ballots cast during the Aug. 6 election.
Provisional ballots are typically used when questions arise regarding voter registration status, eligibility, or other issues that cannot be immediately resolved at a polling place. Election officials must determine whether those ballots meet legal requirements before they can be counted.
Post-Election Audit Set for Wednesday
The Election Commission will conduct its required post-election tabulation audit on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 9 a.m. at the West Office.
The audit is required under Tennessee law and is designed to verify the accuracy of vote tabulation equipment and election results.
The following locations were randomly selected for the audit during the Election Commission’s Aug. 6 meeting:
- Precinct 18 – Lincoln Park Center
- Precinct 59 – Brickey Elementary
- Precinct 66NE – Farragut Middle School
- Precinct 66NW – Farragut Middle School
- Precinct 80 – Corryton Community Center
- Early Voting Location – Gibbs Ruritan Club
Election officials will compare paper records and vote totals to ensure tabulation systems accurately recorded ballots.
Certification Scheduled for Aug. 19
The final step in the election process will be the official certification of results.
The Election Commission is scheduled to certify the Aug. 6 election on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 8:30 a.m. in Room 575 of the City County Building, located at 400 Main Street in Knoxville.
Officials said the meeting agenda will be published on or before Aug. 12 and made available to the media and the public through the Election Commission website.
Public Invited to Attend
Election officials are encouraging members of the public, media representatives and candidates to attend any of the post-election proceedings.
The meetings are part of the Election Commission’s process to ensure transparency and accountability as the county finalizes the results of the Aug. 6 election.
