Campbell County, TN (WOKI) — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) and Campbell County have completed construction of a new courtesy dock at the Davis Cemetery Access Area on Norris Lake, creating the first wheelchair-accessible dock on the Campbell County portion of the lake.
The project represents the culmination of several years of planning and cooperation between local and state leaders. Funding included $75,000 from a federal Sportfish Restoration grant administered through TWRA and a $25,000 matching contribution from Campbell County.
The newly installed dock is fully ADA accessible, providing improved opportunities for individuals with disabilities to enjoy fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities on Norris Lake.
“TWRA is committed to creating accessible opportunities for Tennesseans to enjoy fishing and boating on state waterways,” said TWRA Director of Public Relations Emily Buck. “We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with Campbell County to invest in outdoor recreation and are proud to see this project implemented in a community where families can make new memories together in the outdoors.”
Campbell County Mayor Jack Lynch credited years of work by county officials to bring the project to completion.
“We are thankful for our partnership with TWRA over the years,” Lynch said. “This courtesy dock is the culmination of a grant that our commissioners worked on years ago. The charge was led by former First District Commissioner Robert Higginbotham and carried into existence by Third District Commissioner Rusty Orick, our liaison with TWRA.”
Officials say the dock is the latest example of successful collaboration between Campbell County and TWRA, which have worked together on multiple outdoor recreation and access projects in recent years.
TWRA is responsible for managing and conserving Tennessee’s fish and wildlife resources while also promoting public safety through boating education and law enforcement on the state’s waterways. The agency says projects like the Davis Cemetery dock help expand recreational access and ensure more Tennesseans can enjoy the state’s natural resources.
