KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — A man wanted on multiple felony charges was taken into custody Thursday night after a standoff at a North Knoxville home ended with two men surrendering to police.
According to the Knoxville Police Department, 62-year-old Dewey Richards was arrested following an incident at a residence on West Inskip Drive on the night of July 30, 2026.
Officers were attempting to locate Richards, who was wanted on outstanding warrants for burglary, false imprisonment and assault connected to an alleged incident that occurred at a storage unit facility on Tillery Drive on July 25.
At approximately 9 p.m., officers went to a West Inskip Drive home where Richards was known to spend time. Police said officers saw Richards inside the residence and repeatedly knocked on the door while announcing their presence, but received no response.
As the situation continued, KPD deployed specialized resources to the scene, including Crisis Negotiators, members of the Special Operations Squad and the department’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Team.
Police said negotiators and officers made extensive efforts to establish communication with Richards, including attempts to contact him by phone.
Officers also attempted to reach the homeowner, 64-year-old Jeff Huling, but were initially unable to make contact.
After prolonged efforts by law enforcement, both Richards and Huling voluntarily exited the home and surrendered to officers without incident. No injuries were reported during the standoff.
Richards was taken into custody on the outstanding warrants related to the July 25 storage facility incident.
Huling was also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact.
The investigation remains ongoing.
