NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI)– Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett is urging eligible voters to register before next week’s deadline to participate in the state’s August 6 Primary Election.
To be eligible to vote in the upcoming election, Tennesseans must complete their voter registration by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7.
“When you don’t vote, you turn over the keys of government to those who do. Here in Tennessee, we want every eligible citizen to cast a ballot, but the first step is registering,” Hargett said.
State election officials say registering to vote, updating voter information, or checking registration status can be completed quickly and securely through GoVoteTN.gov or the free GoVoteTN App. Residents with a Tennessee driver’s license or photo ID issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security can complete the process online using a computer, smartphone, or tablet.
Coordinator of Elections Mark Goins encouraged voters to participate in Tennessee’s election process.
“For the fourth year in a row, the State of Tennessee has been ranked number one in Election Integrity. We want all eligible Tennesseans to register to vote and cast a ballot in this election to experience our secure elections and let their voices be heard,” Goins said.
Paper voter registration forms are also available for download at GoVoteTN.gov. Completed applications must be submitted to the applicant’s local county election commission office either by mail or in person.
Tennessee does not offer Election Day voter registration, making the July 7 deadline critical for anyone wishing to vote in the August primary.
Early voting will begin Friday, July 17, and continue through Saturday, August 1.
Additional election information is available at GoVoteTN.gov and through the GoVoteTN App.
