KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — A Knoxville man is facing murder charges after police say he shot and killed his wife Saturday evening.
Officers with the Knoxville Police Department responded to a home in the 2700 block of Jefferson Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on May 23. When they arrived, they found 52-year-old Lakeisha Johnson dead outside the residence from an apparent gunshot wound.
The investigation, which included a review of security footage, led detectives to identify the victim’s husband, 53-year-old Shervon Johnson, as the suspect.
Police say Johnson was not at the scene when officers arrived. Investigators later tracked him to a location on Ball Camp Road, where he was taken into custody just before midnight by members of the department’s Community Engagement Response Team.
Shervon Johnson has been charged with second-degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a weapon.
KPD says the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.
