KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Story Courtesy of WVLT) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a motorcyclist died in a crash on Saturday in Knox County.
According to a preliminary report from THP, 22-year-old Luke Bloomquist was riding a motorcycle west on Asheville Highway toward Cash Road. At the same time, a Honda Ridgeline being driven by a 72-year-old man was turning from Asheville Highway onto Cash Road.
The Honda had started its turn in the right lane of westbound traffic when Bloomquist, who was traveling “at an excessive rate of speed,” merged from the left lane into the right lane “in an attempt to avoid a collision” but hit the Honda and came to rest in the right lane, THP said.
Bloomquist, who was wearing a helmet, died from injuries sustained in the crash, THP said. The driver of the Honda was not injured.
Additional information was not released.
